In the fight against Covid-19, Fabric Solutions Australia has successfully negotiated an agreement to manufacture under license a non-invasive ventilator hood system from SubSalve (USA)

The agreement covers Australia, Indonesia, the Philippines, Thailand, Myanmar, Papua New Guinea, Japan, The Maldives, Malaysia, India, Sri Lanka, Africa, Vietnam, Pacific Island Countries of Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands, the Federated States of Micronesia, Fiji, French Polynesia, Kiribati, the Marshal Islands, Nauru, New Caledonia, New Zealand, Palau, Solomon Islands, Tonga, Tuvalu, Vanuatu, and Wallis and Fortuna.

Fabric Solutions Australia has appointed FloatPac Pty Ltd, a long-standing strategic partner, as the exclusive sales and marketing entity for the hood covering the above locations.

The oxygen hood can also be used in the treatment of other respiratory diseases and illnesses and is primarily used as non-invasive positive pressure ventilation (NIPPV) in the treatment of acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS). More information about ARDS can be found at The Mayo Clinic.

Why Non-Invasive Ventilators?

Covid-19 patients who experience respiratory distress will more than likely require intubation or some ventilation support. As face masks are not recommended for use with Covid-19 patients, due to the risk of aerosolisation of the virus, a patient would typically then be intubated1 . Outcomes for intubated patients, especially in the US, have resulted in high mortality rates (data from March 2020).

Contrast these outcomes to countries like Italy, who have been using non-invasive ventilation for decades as an intermediate step for managing patients. The use of oxygen hoods has shown a 25 to 40% 2 reduction in the need for invasive ventilation, thus reducing mortality rates and improving patient outcomes.

Because the Covid-19 crisis has seen unprecedented demand for these types of ventilators, Fabric Solutions Australia has aligned with FloatPac and signed an agency agreement with SubSalve to meet this much needed demand. SubSalve’s design was in direct response to the Covid-19 crisis and they have drawn heavily on their experience with face masks in deep sea diving.

Fabric Solutions manufactured oxygen treatment hood features:

  1. The oxygen treatment hood helmets not only both pump oxygen into patients’ lungs, but they also help prevent infected patients from passing on the virus they are suffering from
  2. The base is made from softer plastic, leading to greater patient comfort
  3. 315mm diameter x 300mm height
  4. Standard design includes:
    • 2 x 22mm welded ports for standard hose connections from ventilators and respirators
    • 1 x welded patient access port for feeding tubes etc
    • Raised interior port stem to reduce the backflow of sputum or other fluids
    • Shoulder straps for securing to the patient when inflated
  5. The unique one-piece fully welded design means less chance of any pieces disconnecting during use
  6. No changeable parts are necessary
  7. Custom porting options are available
  8. Designed and sold as a disposable, single-use item
  9. 100% Australian Made

  1. Oxygen treatment hood interfaced with a hospital wall system
