Working Out How Much Dam Liner You Will Need
When calculating how much dam liner you will need, make sure you work out the dam dimensions as accurately as possible. Order too much and you will pay more than you need too. Order too little and you will have to comprise to make it fit properly. It is also important to take into consideration two important parameters:
- The slope or gradient of the edges of the dam wall.
- The amount of material used for the edging, including trenches.
Most dams have one of three different types of slopes, depending on how it was built, how big it is and what it will be used for. The slopes are either a 1:1, 1:2 or 1:3 gradient. The steeper the slope, the harder it is for machinery and animals to leave. However the larger the storage capacity of the
Calculating the amounted needed is then just a matter of working out how much you need for the trench and edging and then taking into account the amount of slope you have.
Dam Trenches and Edging
We usually recommend at least 1 metre of material for this area along each side of the dam. This gives you around 500 mm for the trench area and 500 mm for the edging area. You can adjust this from you dam designs accordingly.
